Elements of Distance Education Diffusion

MODULE 2

George Siemens discussed the growing acceptance of distance education in today's corporate and educational spheres, including three possible elements of distance education that are creating more effective learning experiences and giving distance education and identity of its own. I agree with his assessment that there is growing acceptance of online courses when comparing to face to face courses.

I think this acceptance has so much to do with the trust and comfort online tools have to offer. I know that ten years ago, I would not have considered taking online classes. After taking away the 'fear factor' and diving into the plethora of tools available for online use, my comfort zone has increased; therefore, my motivation and use has increased.

Collaborative interaction has evolved from telephone conversations to being able to see and talk to anyone around the world via SKYPE. Learners can converse through tools as simple as email to social media sites such as Facebook, to face to face interactions by way of SKYPE.

Siemens talks about how in the recent past video was a small box on the screen with poor connectivity to how far it has come now.
